Question by Ronald S: How much $$ to mow 1 acre in Midland Tx?
I started up a landscaping service last summer. This is the second season for my business. I have recently been asked by customers to mow large lots and lawns. 1 acre, 1 1/2 acre and 5 acre tracts. I am going to have to find a large riding mower to buy. I know how much to charge on average size residential lawns but I am unsure about how much to ask for on large tracts or pastures. I dont want to over charge since I would like to pick up this type of work. I dont want to under charge so I dont profit from job. I need to know what is an average competitive price to ask for mowing acerage. Advice on pricing these jobs is welcome and appreciated.

Question by ct.landscaping: I was thinking about starting up a small, residential landcaping company and was just wondering what to charge?
A friend and I were thinking about mowing lawns, mulching, weed wacking, trimming bushes, and other sorts of garden care. With not much experience in business, we were just looking for the typival fee a landscaping company would charge? Since we want to make it pretty cheap to appeal to people struggling during the economy, what would be a good price for that? So less than what an average landscaping company would charge but enough to make the profit worth while.

If you are good forget working for cheap. Your customers will be cheap and not pay you. Get estimates from other landscaping companies and price yourself slightly less than your competitors. When you get a job, and do good work, ask your customers for referrals.

Me and my brother do 5$ for the front and 5$ for the back for all type of lawns.
If it is REALLY big charge extra like 8$ or soemthing like that.

I will be moving to Wichita, Kansas near the beginning of spring. I have heard that when the sun is out everywhere is green in Kansas. I heard that there is also a lot of yard work to be done, and that is where I want to help!
I am currently 12 years old and love to go to movies and buy clothes like all the time! My mom said that she can’t be giving me money all the time so I have decided to get some of my own money! So me and my mom have decided I should do some yard work for people who can’t find the time (or just can’t do it) to do yard work.
I have bad allergies so I do not want to have to get sick while working. I also am not one for pulling weeds! I hate to pull weeds! But I wouldn’t mind mowing an average sized lawn. (no acres)
I will also be willing to set up a binder so the customer can choose if they want the trimmings blown away and put in the trash, and other things like cutting length. Also as for charging I would want a reasonable price and discounts for seniors. And if they let me use their mower i would give them a discount due to gas prices. So help me out and tell me what I should do! Thank you! Oh yeah and I don’t want to spend too much money!!

I know a young man who started out mowing lawns for his neighbors at about your age. He now owns his grass-cutting business. He is a senior in high school, and pretty successful. It can be done.
This young man does everything he is asked, as long as it is safe and within horticultural guidelines. That means, he will not hurt plants or the environment.
If you have allergies, this is not the work for you. It is hard, sweaty and dirty work. You need a lot of guidance and training to do it well. Why don’t you start by learning to take care of houseplants? There are a lot of sources of information out there, and the allergy problems may not be as bad.
I am sorry that you do not like to pull weeds. That is probably the one thing that you will be able to do with limited training. That has become one of my favorite things to do in the garden. See how much nicer things look after the weeds are pulled and everything is tidy!
Sorry to be so long-winded. Gardening is a passion and an art when done well. I have been a gardener since I was younger than you, and there is no job that I don’t like.
